Computer Basics: What is a Computer?
Computers are a useful invention of modern human civilization. Computers made everything much easier. There is no area of life where computers are not needed. Computers have given direction to all the tasks of human life which is dynamic and timely. Since the invention of the computer, creativity and accessibility have been found in everything from social, economic, political, educational, and medical, which has made life much more creative and easier in this century. Today we will mainly talk about computers. So, let’s get started without delay!

History of computer
The history of computer creation is unknown to many of us. The computer was born a few thousand years ago, but not a few years ago. Abacus was used to count China about three thousand years ago. It is believed that the idea of making modern calculators came from this Abacus. The calculation was done by rotating a few bids. The origins of the first computer thought came from the ancient Abacus.
In 1821, Charles Babbage invented a device that worked with numbers as well as information, called the Difference Engine. An improved version of this device, the Analytical Engine, was invented a few days later, but the perforated punch-card could only be used once to operate the device. This device had three parts, one was the part of providing information, one was the part of providing results and part was the part of storing data. The parts in modern computers are similar to those in Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine. This is why Charles Babbage is called the father of computers.
In 1890, Dr Herman Holorith added a device called a tabulator to Charles Babbage’s instrument in the U.S. Census Bureau to facilitate calculations, using a punch-card made of paper that could be drilled with a tabulator. And with the help of this instrument, he did the work of the census that took ten years to do in just three years. Dr Herman’s efforts were so successful that he created the tabulating machine company which later became known around the world as IBM. Then gradually computer science began to develop and we came across all the sophisticated computers that have changed civilization.
What is the first computer?
The world’s first computer is called ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer). This is the first digital computer to work with programs. From then on, the computer generation started.
During World War II, when the U.S. military planned to build a fully electronic computer, computer giants such as Von Newman, the father of modern computers, Presper Eckertie and Herman Goldstein, joined the Moore School of Electrical Engineering and the University of Pennsylvania. Forty scientists operated this three-walled computer in an underground room of fifty feet by thirty feet.
How does a computer work?
Computers usually perform a combination of two mediums. This is discussed with examples below.
First, hardware: All the devices, parts and devices that have the external shape of a computer are called hardware. Computer hardware can be further divided into three parts.
- A) Input equipment: Keyboard, mouse, disk, scanner, card reader, digital camera etc.
B) System unit: Hard disk, Motherboard, AGP card, RAM etc.
D) Output equipment: Monitor, printer, disk, speaker, projector, headphones etc.
Second, Software: A program is a series of instructions arranged in a computer language to solve problems or perform tasks. Software is the program or set of programs that make the hardware work by creating a relationship between the computer’s hardware and the user. Computer software can be divided into two main parts.
- A) System software: System software successfully maintains the coordination of work between different units of the computer and successfully employs the ability of the computer to execute practical programs.
B) Application software: A program used to solve practical problems or process data is called application software. A variety of programs designed to solve practical problems are available as commercial products, also commonly referred to as package programs.
So a computer is a combination of hardware and software.
Types of computers
It can be divided into three parts based on computer structure and circulation principle
- Analog computer

- Supercomputer
Microcomputers can be divided into two parts:
- Desktop
- Laptop
Conclusion
In a word, computers have a lot of uses. It has immense use in various fields starting from housework to business, scientific etc. Above all, it has brought a unique revolution in the field of communication. It is also a unique partner in medical and human welfare. In a word, a computer is a device that is capable of doing almost everything.
